This is the first full year for Kevin Weldon in Tarkington ISD, which will be his 31st year in public education.  He accepted the superintendent position for Tarkington ISD in January 2013. Before accepting the position in Tarkington, Mr. Weldon was the superintendent for Kountze ISD in Southeast Texas. Previously, Mr. Weldon spent 28 years of his educational career in Splendora ISD where he was a teacher/coach, head football coach, athletic director and assistant superintendent.

Mr. Weldon grew up in Port Neches, Texas, and graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1978. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University in 1982. He continued his pursuit of education by attaining his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Texas Southern University in 2002. His superintendent certification was achieved at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2007.

Mr. Weldon has been married to his wife, Val, for thirty years and they have two children. Mrs. Weldon graduated from Sam Houston State University and is the head softball coach, girl’s athletic coordinator and teaches business classes for Tarkington High School. Their son, Tyler, is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and is a teacher/coach for Coldspring-Oakhurst ISD. Their daughter, Meagan, is a graduate of Baylor University and is a teacher/coach for Keller High School near Dallas.
